• Emergency contraception

  Emergency Contraception (EC) is a method of birth control which can be used up to 3-5 days after intercourse (depending on the brand) to decrease the chance of pregnancy.

  On-campus, EC is available through Counseling and Health Services during short medical appointments (in person or virtual) or through the Women’s Resource Center (WRC). EC is also available at major pharmacies.

  There are two forms of EC available on-campus:

  • Levonorgestrel:
    • Also called Plan B or EContra
    • Available without a prescription
    • Most effective up to 72 hours (3 days) after unprotected sex and most effective in people who weigh up to 165 pounds
    • Can be obtained from Health Services and WRC
  • Ulipristal:
    • Also called Ella
    • Requires prescription
    • Can be taken up to 120 hours (5 days) after unprotected sex and most effective in people who weigh up to 195 pounds
    • Can ONLY be obtained from Health Services because it requires a prescription
